I you want to go all out on filters, why not buy ones from the company NASA uses, have a look at

Got this as a Christmas pressie: Urban Astronomer's Guide

Would recommend it, points out what is possible.

Of course if you go "up the country" to dark skies then you'll be a lot more familiar with the night sky and you'll make the most of your visit.

PS If they come knocking for votes please mention Urban Light Polution!
