New to all this - HELP! was created by Paul
Greetings from darkest Kerry! I have been given a 8" reflector on a Dobsenion? mount. I have been looking at the Moon (easily found!) but need some guidance from now on. I know nothing about "focal lengths" etc so please dont blind me with facts! I have 2 eye pieces (dont ask) and need some "hands on advice" anyone in Kerry? I tried emailng the Tralee club - to no avail. Thanks one and all.

Paul,
Michael Scully here from the Kerry Astronomy Club. Welcome to the IFAS boards. Sorry about the club email address getting no response. I will check it tonight.
Great to see a new telescope in the county and if we can be of any assistance we will.
What part of the county are you located in. We have observing sessions when it is clear and you are more than welcome to come along. Using the 'scope is the best way to learn about it.
If you hit the PM button below and send me your mobile number I will contact you and add you to the text alerts for our observing sessions.
We are also planning a Saturn observing / Telescope information event on the 10th Feb in Killarney.Details will be on the site shortly.

Hi Paul
Welcome, to the boards. As mike mentioned we will try and help you as much as we can at the club. For now, I dont know how advanced you are as of yet. A first step would be to learn a few of the constellations and use your knowledge of the constellations to track down objects to observe. Saturn is well placed for observing late these evenings. It will look like a bright, oraqngy yellow star in the east / south east and high in the south at midnight / one o clock in the morning. If you know a few constellations then check the beginners section of this site. There is a link to some handbooks you can download. I'd start with the beginners and move onto the binocular one.
I am in Killarney and If I can be of help i can. Like mike said if you want to make contact, or have any further questions pm or email me.
