Eyepieces.

With my Celestron 90EQ i got a 20mm and a 10mm eyepiece. The 20mm is good for wide angle viewing while the 10mm allows for good narrow field viewing.

Using the 10mm i have seen the Orion nebula closer than ever before. I can see more colour and dust clouds.................BUT it is stil pretty small in my scope.

Would i be right in thinking that if i buy a 6mm or smaller eyepiece that i would get even closer and see more?

I know it's a stupid question and i kinda already know the answer. I just want advice/opinions.


Are ALL brands of lens compatiable with my scope?.

My main interest is looking at planets,Nebula,clusters,comets.

The short answer is YES! The thing you need to ask is the size of the lens i.e. the diameter of the barrel.

They come in (primarily) 3 sizes: .95 inch, 1.25 inch, and 2 inch. After that, it is just down to manufacturer and respective glass types and qualities. Filters come last.

Yes and no, it would be bigger in the eyepiece but also fuzzier. Yuo can over magnify an image to the point where a lower power is more desirable.

As for eyepeice brands, most are pretty good, meade and celestron make good low (relatively speaking) cost eyepieces.
The meade series 4000 plossels go for half nothing these days on the second hand marked, they are very popular and work well on most scopes, they are of the 1.25 inch barrel size.
The 0.96inch type are for very small cheaper scopes and the 2" eyepieces are for widefield viewing.

Don't you mind those big mirror fanatics. Time was when a 90mm scope like yours would have been the envy of the lot.

I'm quite fond of small to medium refractors myself, can't see the sense of a telescope that I can't carry under my arm and if it needs a step ladder there's a famous New York expression that's appropriate.
