Checked for solar storms and surprisingly found these, the one featured below is interesting though advertising for "Starry night" software

Nice X class flare again today www.n3kl.org/sun/images/noaa_xrays.gif ?
K index is around 6 (depends where you check)
www.dk0wcy.de/magneto/magnet.htm this one in Germany shows activity rising sharply but BZ index is positive, Mid latitude aurora warning but no radio aurora on vhf here

Does this mean that if it was clear, there would be no visible aurora ??

Another X class flare just now guys/girls (2nd one today)
Dave as far as I see it, unless the BZ index is very mush minus we never get visual aurorae down at these latitudes, there is no sign of activity here yet, seems unlikely either tonight, very often ham radio people (myself included) spot contacts via aurora here on this activity cluster under either 144 or 50mhz "CUSTOM SPOTS"

Next 36 hours may be interesting

All that kind of went over my head, but a loose translation I believe is that there is strong geomagnetic activity over Ireland in the radio band. Due to bad weather for visual observations, radio frequencies are confirming activity as Charles spoke!
