I also got a lovely view of the comet this evening, from around 17:10 until it set behind a tree about 25 minutes later. It had a remarkably bright, white nucleus, with a lovely faint tail spreading upwards about two-thirds of a degree or so. Once I knew where it was, I could easily make it out with the naked eye - indeed, it's the first comet I've ever been able to see with the naked eye in anything other than complete darkness. Give it another go tomorrow morning or night! :)

Further Observation @ 17:14hrs:

Comet has brightened a bit, can spot it with the naked eye now, but it is setting fast. I have just about lost it to a couple of distant trees. My vantage point for all of this was the upstairs back windows, luckily.

A rethink on the tail length - I'd say no more than 2 degrees in length from my perspective.

Now I can quite bitching about the weather for another little while! :)

I’m beginning to despair cloud in the morning clears during the day and cloud moves in again in the evening.

I may never see it.

No, it is not a periodic comet. Chances are it will be lost in the depths of space forever. It was a once-off comet!
