It seems that 2 comets can be followed now for a long time.

C/2006 OF2 Broughton

I could spot this comet a first time a few nights ago left of Perseus, and my estimate was mag 11. This comet will be visible until March 09! All that time he can be found almost in zenith! In Nov 08, when he seems to reach maximum of mag 10, he makes a reverse movement between the stars, so he stays a long time then above Auriga.

C/2006 W3 Christensen

For this comet, just above Cassiopeia now, I received an observation a few nights ago telling the estimate was mag 10.5! If this is right, then it means we can follow this comet till Nov 09! I want to try him in the weekend. He makes a reverse turn from Feb 09 till Jul 09, so this one stays long time above Andromeda. In Dec 08 he also reaches zenith and will brighten 1 mag. In March 09 he stays 20 deg. low above the horizon. But after that he climbs again, and in Summer 09 he reaches maximum mag of around 8.

So these are 2 comets certainly to catch many months from now !

I could just spot this comet tonight at 96x, and my estimate was mag 10.5 : cheer:

So this means we can follow this comet the same time with Broughton!

Interesting, thanks for posting Coldfieldboundary. With the location of both those comets, have we any charts that show an accurate enought plot for them? Homes is still around Perseus ins't it? In such a small area of sky, there are 3 comets on show. Makes for some interesting viewing as Winter comes in.

Finder charts for the two and info about many comets can be got at a website called skyhound - www.skyhound.com/sh/skyhound.html
Also www.aerith.net is good

Holmes is visible as a morning comet low in the East in Cancer. Its situation improves as the month goes on. Current predictions estimate its brightness at mag +7.5 with it expected to slowly fade.

Holmes is already far from Perseus, and no longer to spot, much too faint now, since he only did a huge growing. Broughton and Christensen are faint comets, but for a very long time to see. But next year there will always be other comets too.

These two still are faint comets, so I think they will be only just visible in clear nights.

This is a little chart with the path of them:
