flashing star ? was created by Helios
ok im just back in from an a couple of hour of the best sky ive seen in a long time, BUT i have observed some thing unusual (and if someone could tell me what i seen it would be great.)

a flashing star that seems to pulsate every 30 sec or so going from barely visible to WOW

at first i thought it was a aircraft but it stayed in the same position. it is still visible now as im typing,

it is located near orion directly across from his belt out to his bow just to the right of the third star in the bow. sorry for the bad location as im not to sure how else to give you the exate location.

Just took a peek but couldn't say I saw anything definite in that area.

I looked across from Orion's belt to the bow and then looked a little over to the right of it.

Were you observing naked eye?

hi and thanks for your reply

i was using my trusty binoculars

i have since been out and not seen it since, I now wonder if the flashes could have been a satellite an engine firing in trying to modify the orbit of a satellite??   Seems a little hard to believe.  Could you actually see that?  Are satellites actually steered around that regularly and would they actually need to fire the engines every 30 seconds for 15 minutes straight??     Doesn't seem right to me, but??  I originally thought that we were seeing reflective flashes off a rotating satellite, but the sun was way too far below the horizon, and I wondered if reflections of the moon could actually light that thing up that bright.   Could it be a weather balloon with a beacon??

Dave - I guess it could have been anything... I'm not a satellite expert and I know even less about weather balloons.

Perhaps others here might chime in with suggestions?
