Yes thats what causes 'Alexanders Dark Band' but the explanation i gave explains why the inside of the primary bow is so bright! - a simplified explanation of course but i got it from Les Cowleys atmospheric site.

Martin Mc Kenna

coruscations attending the whole length of the luminosity, giving to the phenomena the aspect of a wrathful messenger, and not that of a tranquil body pursuing a harmless course..comet of 1680

No, the interior being bright is exact the same thing as Alexander's dark band, the light that's missing from the band ends up in the middle. You can't just get rid of the light, it has to go somewhere!!!!

I have to say I was surprised that the atmospherics forum was taken down, so what if only 2 people post in it ??
What we really need here is a selective way of "seeing" new posts, i.e. automatically excluding Seanie or whoever from ever seeing atmospheric (for example) posts/threads when he clicks on the "View posts since last visit" button. :)

This feature would solve alot of problems.

+1

The ability to ignore a topic (or a user (I'd never have to read one of Seanies posts ever again!)) would be great. :-)

Thanks guys! I am just trying, steadily, to drive you away... its working! :D I never liked the way you 2 smelled anyway! :P

Seriously, to be able to exclude WEATHER phenomena on an Astronomy board would be good...

...to not have the stuff pop up regularly would be even better.

Maybe I can start adding pictures of my car seen at night with the Plough overhead?
