Hi ALL,
I'm getting a real sense of aperture fever here, after looking at the obsesson website.
www.globaldialog.com/~obsessiontscp/OBHP.html
I need to STOP looking at astromart !!!!!

I was wondering does anyone out there have an obsession dob scope.
I was wondering how do you find it ??
What size aperture do you have and how does it compare to other scopes you've used.

Thanks,

One time I looked at the Obsession website and it had comments from a guy in Galway. I think he got an 18". I forget his name though. He must be lying low for fear we all suddenly become his best friend! :)

Did you see the F5 25 inch scope!
The focuser in 10 feet in the air, and a cost of over $10500, this is the ultimate scope !!! :P

AND, did you see the differing images of M13 through each of the scopes,
amazing.
Seems like to me that the 18inch scope is the most practical in terms of use and cost.
Before, I had a passing interest in these scopes, but I must say that my appetite has been seriously wetted.
I will own a big dob someday (this is all your fault Michael BTW)

10feet in the air - not exactly practical is it! ALthough it'd be nice to have one, you'd need to get a cherry picker also!
The comparitive images of M13 are indeeed interesting. Once my SSIA matures I'll be buying a large dob. Ideally though I'd like to have one where I can sit down while observing. I find that I can stay observing alot longer and see alot more detail when in comfort at the scope. A 15-16inch f/4 scope perhaps?

The way I see it , if I want to be sitting, then I'll need to be on the garage roof to reach the eyepiece
I concur about the SSIA, dob here we come :P

Talking of large scopes a friend of mine often visits a chap in Roscommon with a 30+ inch scope.

Is he a member of this site, I wonder?

I forget his name, I'm hopeless at remembering them.

John T. 20 inch owner in Galway Ireland says"My eyepieces finally arrived and I set up my new 20" at the weekend. We have had a full moon so I restricted my viewing to Jupiter and Saturn up to 317x with my Radian 8mm, all I can say is AWSOME. The thrill of seeing something real with my own eyes after looking at images for the previous 25 years is indescribable. After waiting this long for a proper scope I know I have hit a winner. !"

 I'll have to make do with my 70mm for a while yet...

Thats Eamon Ansboros scope deffo. If folks are seriously interested in big dobs you could do a lot worse than talk to Phil Lardner he makes beautiful scopes. Also Wally Mee's 20" scope is for sale IIRC:)

I gotta say for anyone who has never used a really big scope, you haven't seen the sky until you seen it in a 20 inch:) Even compared to the 16" I use a 20" is bloody awesome!

I've seen through some of these big Dobs at the WSP over the years, and the image of M13 is just fantastic.
How much is Wally selling the scope for ??

Like all big scopes, a second mortgage perhaps?

I'm gonna build one myself one day...
