A few in Lyra

Beautiful night in Belfast last night, although the south was completely washed out by the bright moon. So I got into the shade of the garage with the C6 and had a scout around in Lyra.

Epsilon Lyrae- The famous double double. I managed to get all four in the field of view at 120x. All components are white, although I thought I detected a hint of yellow in one on the more northerly pair

Zeta Lyrae - Both seen as white, with the secondary perhaps being about one magnitude less than the primary.

Delta Lyrae 1/2 - Very wide orange and greyish pair, they did not really strike me as being a pair, but apparently they are. They lie in a quite nice open cluster called Stephenson 1, which contains about 16 or so fainter stars. The orange primary dominates the cluster. Very nice sight, well worth tracking down.

Struve 2470 and Struve 2474 - two quite close pairs, which both fitted nicely into the same field of view at 120X, although both pairs were easily split at 60x. All were quite faint, with no discernable colours.

Beta Cygni (Alberio) - Couldn't pass this one up as I was in the area. Magnificent as always.

Gamma Delphinus - As above.

Nice one Stevie, can I recommend Lyra for your next session, it's a wide separation and I could see the companion as a nice shade of blue.

True about Albireo, never a star to miss.

A nice read Stevie. Between you and 'lunartic' Paul, I didn't know there were so many attractive double/variable stars up there worth keeping an eye out for. A bit of inspration has been creeping in to me from you guys.

Thanks for the kind comments lads. Seanie, I don't know how Paul would see it, but or me, half the fun is tracking down the doubles, and half the fun is just enjoying their beauty. I've often wondered what it would be like to live on a planet with two or more suns in the sky. Imagine living on a planet orbiting a star in the middle of M13!! Could such a planet even exist? And could we ever know about it if there was such a planet?
