Thats the first thing that occured to me, Im sure Dave Bell will work something out.
But I do think that this is a good thing overall, the coronade scopes will become cheaper, who would have guessed 10 years ago that you'd get an integrated goto computer in a 5 inch maksutov for 1000$ !!
Anyway, I'm not surprised that they bought out someone, they obviously had the resources to by celestron, they weren't going to let that cash go to waste.
Maybe celestron will by out solarscope ??

There may be one bad outcome; are Meade likely to provide the Whirlpool Star Party with a solar telescope every year to raffle off? I doubt it. Overall it should be good for the consumer.

Just did a search for the PST and found it here for €640 in Portugal
www.perseu.pt/index.html?target=p_1013.html&lang=en-us
In fact the MaxScope 40 at Euro 2.164,00 seems reasonable also,
Anyone heading to the states could pick up the PST for under €400

I was just thinking that the Meade ETX secondary "mirror" is about the same size as the central obstruction in the coronado filter.
This might be a match that Meade may explore, maybe a way of getting a solar scope more cheaply in the future?, and you could use it for night time viewing by just unscrewing the filter....
Since they'll now be making the filter and the scope, the combination might be cheaper ??

It appears that Coronado were in some financial difficuties which explains why Meade only paid 2.5million for it. They must have taken on the debt also.

Interesting,
This might be because the h-alpha scopes are inherently expensive and only have one use?
I thought they had a big backlog of orders on their books, or was that the real problem, they just couldn't get them out fast enough?
