Can anyone advise me how portable this scope is. My daughter is going to New York on friday for a week to shop and I was wondering, would it fit in a suitcase and how much space it takes up when in the box. Not sure where exacty she is staying but I gather it is near plenty of shops.
If you have dealt with the american stores , will they deliver to a hotel if asked. Is this scope worth the effort or should I be a bit more ambitious and get something a bit bigger.

Clear skies and regards
Peter

Peter,
if she is lucky to buy the boxed setup that was on sale here, it comes with a relatively small rucksack that the whole lot can actually fit into - believe it or not! Tripod, motor mount, tube, and all the accessories!

Peter - as Seanie says, as long as she can get the rucksack, its easy to take as carry-on hand luggage. But you need to check re Customs rules and regs to avoid any difficult situations.

Here are the NYC scope dealers - not sure if:
1. They'll deliver to a hotel or
2. If they all stock Meade, and specifically the ETX70

A few phone calls will sort it out for you.

Cheers

Dave

Considering the lower prices in the USA for Meade Scopes I would suggest that you consider purchasing one of the higher spec ETX models .... ETX 90...105 or 125. While the ETX70 is a good scope for the money, the higher spec scopes in the series are so much better.... and are not much bigger to transport home.

My thinking exactly, just make sure its working before you bring it home!
You'll be able to buy a 240volt mains transformer here for a few euros, dont use the american one here, you create many sparks and a bad smell !
You can never have a scope thats too big :P
