Great to hear from you, Michael!
It will cloud over at midnight.
Right now I'm printing a map of Jupiter.
Aubrey.

And I have printed off another map for Saturn.
Some nice field stars and moons too nearby
Aubrey.

How did everyone get on last night with the observing? Aubrey mentioned in a text that the sky was clear at the Sugar Loaf car park.
I went down as far as the Old Bog Road near Milltownpass and had clear skies up to when I left after 1am. There was some ground-hugging mist later in the night and that brought a lot of moisture which regularly fogged up the camera lens. I did not see many Perseids but a handful of them were magnitude +1. Only one was captured on camera going to the lower right of Arcturus.
I was surprised how few satellites were visible when last year the sky seemed to be crawling with them at the beginning of August.
Fingers crossed for later and another Perseid chase!

Hi John
There were five is us, Aubrey, Valerie, Michael, Darren and myself at the Sugarloaf, we stayed until about 2am. The skies were surprisingly clear for the most part, the Milky Way being really prominent. The rate of visible meteors was quite low, I would guess that we saw no more than two dozen between us, Aubrey and Darren were busy with their scopes. There were two spectacular examples that I saw.
I guess all the satellites were down our way as we spotted a heck of a lot of them.
I took more than a hundred images and did not manage to catch one.
Fingers cross for tonight, we are planning to head to Trooperstown to get out of the wind.

Many thanks Paul. Great to hear you had a good evening observing and the sky stayed clear.
I will definitely join you all later. Just waiting to hear back from Antonio about what he might do.
