Thanks for all your positive comments, I enjoy sketching the moon, using grey on black is new to me and very exciting !! We were all lucky to have such a clear week to observe the lovely luna.

Deirdre,

I have heard and read of people who will take a few images of a lunar feature and then proceed with their drawings using the photos in front of them as a basis. Obviously you sit behind the eyepiece during the complete session for such work.

Have you tried or considered using photos to do your work? I suspect by continually observing the target while sketching, you may bypass short-term problems related to seeing as well as helping you become a better observer.

I never work from or with photographs ever, all my sketches are directly from my target, through my scope, to my eye to the page.

During the time it takes to sketch the feature, it may be clear for a few minutes, then go in and out of sharpness. Now and then it may become so clear its almost touchable, that's when I can add more fine detail.

Sketching is the best, most intense, way to learn the Moon.
