New Naked Eye Comet - 17/P Holmes

Here's a stack from yesterday evening which I've inverted for clarity - definite tail-like stuff in this one....



This is the same frame - I've done as much as I can here to keep detail at all levels - this is a huge dynamic range compressed into a jpeg....



And here's a close-up...

The negative really shows it up very well Paul.

There is a really neat photo on SpaceWeather right now which includes a visible trail as well as structure within the nucleus.

I may have a break in the weather to finally have "first light" (visually and photographically) with this comet later tonight.

Is that the one by Sebastian Voltmer? Truly awesome image - I just don't have the sky to get anywhere near that!

Yes, this is the photo .... very stunning work!

I will be up all night trying to catch a 2-hr sucker hole for my first glimpse. Fingers crossed.
