I run a begginer's astronomy course for Astronomy Ireland in Trinity College Dublin. The next course starts on October 11, and runs for 10 weeks. You can book a place on Astronomy Ireland's website -

There's no certificate with this course - the style is very informal, and my jokes are terrible.
I'm doing a science degree with the Open University myself, and can attest to the quality of their teaching materials - they're first class.
David Grennan is mistaken (sorry Dave). Astronomy Ireland did NOT produce a guide to studying astronomy in Ireland, Nova Education (me again) did. I have several copies left, and if you send your address to me at novaed@eircom.net I'll be happy to send one to you.
