Lads - thaks for the advice and pointers. i checked the bins again and the numbers i quoted are 110m/1000m whihc i guess means that you get a field of view of 110 metres at 1000m or something

the bins are Bresser but i have no other details and the website doesnt have any info on the make i have.

i already have a tripod however i dont have a bracket for getting the bins on which i will have to get in town somewhere - any clues on stockists of bin brackets and likely prices?

thanks

I concur with whats already been said. I have a pair of 15 X 70 Celestron Skymaster (approximately 130 euro) - Had them about 2 years and they are the dogs bits. anything above that number become cumbersome and shaky. I built a parallalogram mount for mine from a hybrid of designs found on the net that was simple and effective.
