PS. By the way, the LMC and SMC would be something else from Kenya!

Has anyone looked into contacting astronomy clubs, science centres or
university's in the area to see if they have been looking into this?
I've always found the direct approach with this kind of thing to be very beneficial.

Although I love the idea of going to Kenya there are serious safety issues to consider
also and a helpful reliable well-known local guide or group is most defiantly
needed for a trip like this.

Remember Novo lads?
There were some near misses with the Greek lads
the day before and in fairness
when I think back on it we were really flying by the seat
of our pants on that trip!

true, but we didnt stand out too much in Novo.
In Kenya, it'd be kinda be obvious we're not locals : blink:
I'd relish the chance to drive one of those big 4x4s across some rough roads
although there is something to be said about a countryside where you could end up getting eaten by the local wildlife.

We would need a guide over there alright.
A couple of my friends were over there last year.
Hope to be in contact with them this evening and will discuss it with them.

Hi,

If the time of annularity was extremely short (like in 1984) you might have a chance of imaging some of the corona. But a long annular eclipse is exactly what you do not need for that. Actually for a annular eclipse, the shorter the better! Unlike a TSE, an annular eclipse is never that short and there is not the same time pressure.

Kenya is worth visiting on its own. I was then on a extension to the 2001 TSE trip in Zimbabwe. Yes, You need shots.
