If by some miracle anyone from NASA is reading this post, you can now offer me a job as now I'm qualified, I need to give 4 weeks notice though.
this is great craic.

seriously though, if they are sprites and that low to the horison, then the clouds below them must be many tens of miles north of you, if not over 60+ miles away.
With a bit of maths, you can figuring out the distance given the angle above the horison and the typical altitudes of the suppossed sprites. There was an article in sky&telescope regarding cloud distance and angle above the horison,I must go dig it out.

Actually, now I do recall that an American with an all sky meteor cam
posted pretty much the exact same looking image on some messageboard..
can't recall which one though..

Dave's post jogged my memory...
He suspected the 'sprite' was somewhere in the region of 60-70 miles away
but in fact it turned out to be much further.
The frame he caught it on was also at the bottom which makes perfect sense
if you think about it.

Here is a link to Met Eireans Lightning report for the 26th of Oct
There was one strike recorded to the NE of you that night but the time
suggests it was later although not all strikes get recorded.

The more I look at the video and image the more certain I am that it is indeed
a sprite from lightning.

Here are some links to threads on other fourms about
people capturing sprites (and some nice video footage of them also)

Many thanks for all your help guys,

I have emailed a few places and fingers crossed they will get back to me,

There are a few lightning stations around so hopefully they will help locate the storm! :)

I will of course let you all know if I get any replies back!

Graham

Ok,
Firstly, I did not say I wouldnt watch the earlier videos
because 'I know that I'm right'
I said I was not going to watch them because you
did not give any preface as to what they were about
or there for.

Secondly,
What I wanted to know
(and I stated this fairly clearly above)
was did you think the image Graham recorded
was in fact an alien spaceship as you elluded to.

Lastly,
on the seperate issue of Ufo reports being debunked
or buried by the US government.
It's nothing new to me.
I've read several books on the subject and in fact
it's one of my pet interests.
I like to just digest the facts and take it from there.
Almost all UFO sightings can quite reasonbly be explained.
It's the small amount from credible witnesses are
the ones that are interesting.

I also don't like the way the producers of these
films (as above) litterally discredit the whole content
by showing (some) images during the iterviews
that have actually been proved as fake.

Oh and by the way.
The Pheonix sighting was actually proved to
have been flairs during a military training excercise.

Lastly,
I personally find the topic of UFO's
Alien Visitors etc all very facinating.
My mind is actually very open to all
intellegent reasonable arguments.
Unfortunatly, your posts often come across
in a very negative manner.

Do I believe in extraterrestrial life?
Yes.
I personally think the universe is too old, big and reptitave
for this planet to be the ONLY place in the entire universe
at any time to have had 'life' of some kind.
Now weather or not there are aliens in crafts
dropping by for whatever reason,
I'm very open to reading and listining to reports
from the likes of the people above.
But yet we must have our minds open to ALL
possibilities and be mindful that while the vast
majority of the 'credable' witnesses we can
take at face value there are surely a small amount
that are unreliable.
Just because someone was once a pilot or
astronaut does not make them 100% reliable.
(remember the female astronaut that drove
a few thousand miles wearing a nappy
so she didnt have to stop to attack her husbands lover!?)

I'd really like to believe.
:-)
