VMC 200L tube seems to have nothing to put a camera on.
Maybe I can lend you my Vixen Weight Shaft Camera Bracket for mounting your camera on the weight shaft of the HEQ5. Just have to check with Yannis if this can be done. I guess there will be no problemo.
What do you think? Do you have another solution?

thanks for the offer.
Hopefully I wont need it as I'm going to order an
Astrotrac tomorrow.
(all I needed was a good enough excuse!)
Also,
what is the situation with regards to power?
I'd be hoping to be able to re-charge a few AA size and the Cannon camera ones.
Would this be possible?
Oh and on the lack of showers...
This works a treat...
Used one for 4 months in the South of France one long hot summer!

As for sleeping in the refuge.
I for one would much prefer to sleep in a tent.
So I'll take your advice on that one.
I'm gonna try and travel as light as I can,
just bring the bear essentials.

Better shower than at a 5-star hotel!
Bring yours!

Ah, that's very clever! Doubt I'd be able to get my hands on one in time for Greece at this stage though, unless some camping shops here in Ireland would sell them, would they?

Interms of equipment, this is what I'm bringing,
7x50 binoculars + tripod, redlight+ small atlas book.
canon 300d for day pics.
I might bring my olympus OM1 if I feel like it, been mechanical it should be hassle free for to set off the shutter and let if go for half an hour or even beyond an hour if its dark enough. Might be nice to get some circumpolar shots at that altitude.
BUT, this trip for me is primarily observing, to see objects in the far southern sky in decent scopes, I can take image of the sky on any holiday.
I'm going to sit down this weekend with the atlas and make a list.
What are the rest of you doing ?

You can get those showers in Argos.
Dave.
I too have been planning a little.
I've been very busy workwise lately so I'm only getting a small while
here and there to sit at the PC and select a hit list.
I'm pretty much hoping to spend the lions share of our limited time there observing as much as possible.
It'd be a total waste to spend the entire trip imaging
when we have a fantastic opportunity to select targets we simply will never observe from Ireland.
In terms of astro gear.
10X50 Binos.
Sky atlas.
Canon 350D.
various lenses & accessories.
Tripod.
&
Astrotrac
all this will fit nicely into my Lowpro travel bag:
www.frankryanjr.com/lowepro_camera_bag.jpeg
(CARRY ON!!)
and one small rucksack with the tent / bag and clothes etc in
as checked luggage.
Dont forget your sunblock!

About those showers, they are cheap and are sold everywhere here, don't worry, I can provide some to you, if it's difficult finding them.
When I said to Frank "bring yours", it's because their volume is tiny.
About your observing lists, let us know of it. I, Yannis and Leon can do some homework and prepare our telescopes for these objects. And we can add some more objects.
Dave, DO bring 100 ASA slide or negative, because you will have at least 3 1/2 hours

Greek astrophotographers, so it will be easier
to make a schedule for Parnon weekend.
Select from the filters month (July) and
you'll find whats up on the 22.00 Greek time.
Then you may select from filter the constellation
or the DSO you are interested for and make your program.

See you soon!

ps. Frank, I'm glad you bought this astrotrac and i'll have my telescope
for the whole night

Nevermind - I'll have 2 weeks in Fuengirola from July 14th. Maybe I can get a good Southern view from the beach at night, and practice some more photography on Sagitarius and Scorpius.
Hope all my Greek buddies are keeping well, and not missing the Bushmills too much.

Don;t worry John, we'll make sure they don't have to 'do without'. I also have another very nice tincture in mind to bring (Purely for medicinal purposes of course!)

An alternative object list for us small aperturers is Carbon Stars (tons of them) which are my favourite hunt, especially since Yannis (Joker in the Pack) came up with THE list: www.astrovox.gr/forum/download.php?id=6415
I have already entered 20 of them as "User Objects" and I am waiting for the feast.
But in any case, you will all have 2-3 telescopes 8-10 inch for your own observations, and of course, occasionally you can view targets through every large dob or refractor you can spot around.

You guys, with your super-dooper tents, I hope you are wiser than John, who had a tiny little problem...
Yeah, how could he be so remiss as to go all that way when the crescent moon was in the sky

I was thinking of bringing a telescope, but then I thought why? since there will be scopes there alot bigger then anything I can bring, so now I'm thinking of eyepieces...
Is there any point bringing eyepieces??, I've seven ultra wide angle eyepieces that might be useful, namely
meade 14mm UWA
5mm,7mm,9mm T6 naglers
22mm T2 nagler
26mm, 31mm T5 naglers
If someone there already has these, then there isn't much point in me bringing them, I'd like to contribute by bringing something to this and give people a chance of using them before they might go out and buy one.

the available eyepieces are:
Naglers 7, 9, 13, 17, 26, Panoptic41 and WO UWAN16mm.
All the other have a lot of different brands we may use.
If anyone has to bring the N12T4 so I could have the chance
for a trυ
Thanks in advance!
We are all excited of this July weekend and we are waiting
of meeting you!

Sounds like the only one that might be worth bringing is the 31mm, it would
be interesting to do a comparison between it and the panoptic do you think ?
