Venus & M45 April was created by lunartic_old

On April 2nd 3rd and 4th, Venus approaches M45.  On the 3rd the Pleiads get a new sister as Venus enters the cluster, lying just 1/4 degree south of Alcoyne.

It was a spectacular sight last time in 2012 through my William Optics 158 mm apochromatic refractor even at mere 40X

Kind regards,

Aubrey.

Poor forecast for the south, you might have better luck in the east.

I was really hoping to capture this on camera, but "Clear Outside" app is indicating 100% cloud cover later :-(.
We'll have to make do with good old Fred Espanak's wonderful image from Monday night in Arizona:

Typical Irish weather.
When I retire, I am definitely moving to somewhere with a better climate.

What's the problem?
I have Venus and 7 Pleiades at 40X at 8.30 pm through my William Optics 158
mm F/7 apochromatic refractor!
Plus I have no shimmering at 320X on Venus!!

Clear skies are here again!!

Get out into your back gardens right away.

Happy Nights.

Aubrey.

Caught about 10 seconds in the 15x70s before the cloud rolled in - beautiful but brief even in the twilight. You'll have to make do with a screenshot:

Beautiful photos John,

I'm about to set-up my scope.

Fingers crossed it clears up.

All the best,

Now it's my turn to be under a 100% overcast sky.
But I'm not giving up hope just yet!

@Darren
No, no, that's the Celestron Sky Portal app, just a screen capture :-)
I think the cloud is destined to get heavier here 98% predicted by 22:00 (Clear Outside App) and getting worse.

Got a brief glimpse of the moon but nothing more... myweather2.com still giving a clearish window before midnight.... sweeping for Venus through binoculars seems faintly ridiculous! :D

I'm getting brief glimpses of the Moon at 40X.
Its magnitude is -11.3.
Distance = 364,359 km.
76.1% illumination.
32.8' angular diameter.
10.5 days old.
I saw Mare Crisium very close to the eastern edge.
Tycho, Clavius, Copernicus, Jura mountains look very good indeed with a dark shadow on the western side.
The Carpathian mountains look very good too.

Here's my efforts, one through a gap in the clouds in twilight and one through a hazy sky giving a nice Corona (not virus!) effect!

Super image, Paul!
Thank you for sending it in.
I've just had 15 minutes of some breaks in the clouds.
All 7 sisters have reappeared at 40X.

The seven have the names: Merope (right next to Venus), Electra, Taygeta, Maia, Alcyone (to Venus' north), Atlas and Pleione.

Of course I'm still staying out for one more view!

Very well done to those who've managed to observe the event tonight.

I'm still waiting on an opportunity to see it before it dips behind a house. In saying that I did see Venus shining bright as I opened my front door, but by the time I looked through the eyepiece it was gone.

One more break in the clouds within the next 30 minutes and I'll get to observe it sitting amongst the seven sisters.... Come on clear skies, or at least a clear spot in the right place :)
