I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on same.
I've just got into Digi photography since the summer, and already the files are building up.
The choices are endless, and I've sat staring at the PC on a couple of occasions - stumped  . Start as you mean to go on, they say, so like all good manufacturing processes, I'd like to get it right 1st time, as time , I know, will not allow me to revisit the files to correct same. :!:
Obviously, the key issue here is to keep it simple, or else you get caught in a loop, and the fun factor goes from it, not to mind ease of accessability.
I download to PC (WinXP has a good buit-in prog for storing pics), and will copy to CD-R every 6 to 12 months.
But how best should one file? e.g. can a folder within another be read by a std. DVD player, even if jpeg enabled?
etc.
I'd like to get this right for when I venture to start taking shots at night.
How do you do yours...??!!

Hi Paul,
Download this nifty little program, it's free!!!
www.picasa.com/content/download.php?tid=Y2NpZD0zNTU4JmN2PTE%3D
I'm a designer during the day, so you can imagine how much fun I have trying to organise pictures- this takes care of the whole thing for you. It will constantly scan folders for new pictures and automatically categorize them into albums, by date.
Try it- you won't be disappointed.

Just another thought- ALDI are selling a video sender at the moment for about €40. You could put one end on your PC and the other on your PC (if you have a video card) and bypass the whole DVD idea. Beam it straight to your TV.
Picassa will let you view your pics as a slide show.

I store my images by year first, then by month and finally by day: eg
Astrophotos (name of folder)
-2002 (seperate folders)
-2003
-2004
then, under each year I have 12 seperate folders:
-2004 01 January
-2004 02 February
and then finally, by date (not one for every day, just one folder for each day I took images):
-2004 01 12
-2004 01 13
etc
Using this date format ensures that they are always lined up in the explorer window in date format.
I store them on my second hard drive (ie. not the one windows is on in case you need to to a reinstallation of windows and need to format the c: drive)
Clear skies,
