On 2nd March at about 02:30, the day before the eclipse, there is also a close conjunction of the moon and Saturn. As a matter of fact from most of the Eastern UK there will be a good grazing occultation. Unfortunately we must make do with a conjunction. However it's still one of the most impressive sights to see Saturn's rings so close to the Monn.

Here's the only Total Lunar Eclipse I've ever photographed. It's a poor animation taken through clouds in January 2001 in the light polluted skies of SW London where I lived at the time.

I'm hoping for something better this time!

Clear skies,

Paul.

Hi John,

We are fortunate to have an actual occultation but the problem is that it starts with the moon at 13 degrees altitude and completes with the moon at 9 degrees altitude. In other words it is basically a visual exercise at best.

Paul,

A photographer's best friend is "exposure compensation" and this is especially true if you have a digital camera where you can assess an image and its histogram immediately and proceed from there.
