Deise Astronomy will definately be organising something - probably both in Waterford city and in Dungarvan. Will post details nearer the date.

Some of you may recall that there was quite a bit of excitement for the 2004 Venus transit. Thanks in no small part to the ESO's VT-2004 project which enabled schools around Europe to get simple solar telescopes to view the transit with, plus tshirts, information packs etc. This was also back in the time when the ESO had money to fly amateurs to Prague and Paris for conferences about it :)

Anyway, I've found the poster that we produced after the event, with some photos of groups here, news clippings etc, which I'll bring along to the SDAS meeting tomorrow if anyone wants to take a look.

Thats a great little app, I think that looking at my own location here in the midlands I might have 5 minutes if lucky on a partily risen sun????? looks decidingly dodgy...me thinks hill top, clear morning, minimum haze and no cloud hmmmmm....but hey...can always catch the next one anyway

We'll, I had a look at starry night and from limerick the sun clears the horizon at a quarter past five, the highest hill in our area is called tountine at a height of nearly five hundred feet only gains us a minute and a half. Going to the coast in Dublin gains us fifteen minutes and going up to the north east coast at best gains us another thirteen minutes, so the sun there rises nearly half an hour earlier then it does in limerick.
Given the right weather conditions, there are a number of us who are going to travel for this, where are the clubs in Dublin and Belfast going, would it be possible for a few of us to join you on that hopefully clear morning
