TAS put together a calendar for 2006 as the result of a childrens space art competition we ran. Believe me, it takes a lo of work to get a calendar together with interesting bits and pieces added in. Michael OC and I spent a couple of weeks on layout, scanning the entries, adding astro-info, and then the cost of getting it printed was quite big. It was A3 size (folded into A4) and was 24 pages.
You need to get a sponsor on board to help share the costs if you really wanted to make a profit, the images MUST be submitted in hi-res format, and someone willing to put in the work. If that all comes together, then it will look great!
