Prices from explore.co.uk

Not cheap, that's for sure!!
More expensive by a long mile than the trip to Turkey + the trip to Russia + the trip to China all added together.

I think we'll give this one a miss.

Michael,

Now you have confirmation surrounding my earlier comment about prices being circulated are for around $10,000 .... if this remains to be the case, I can use those funds for some premium equipment purchases in lieu of a 40% probability of success for TSE2010 and at $10,000. ;)

Hi,

Anthony, remember the cloud prospects on Easter Island are not good.
And the island is small, making it difficult to escape any widespread cloud.

Even in Fr. Polynesia cloud prospects are over 40%. A ship is a good option to improve these. Of course a ship is not the best if your primary purpose is high resolution imaging.

All in all I would not particularly advise anybody to go, if they did not view it as a holiday as well.

On a positive note, this should be a good chance to see the deep southern skies.

Just to say good luck with this and the 2009 eclipse. No 'decent' eclipse (apart from Queensland in November 2012) occurs until the one in the USA in August 2017.

Hi John,

No question this odds are stacked against us for TSE2010 no matter how you slice it. Now, if the price was a little more reasonable, I would be more than happy to risk it (remember, no pain, no gain).

However, with the current pricing, one would go (at $10,000) if they had money to burn.

With the cost of the Easter Island destination rising by
the day and the prospects not that great anyway,
what about Chile?
The cloud cover statistically is higher but it would be
easier to get to no?

Might be worth a go combined with a few nights in the Atacama desert.
