That sounds like NLC's Keith!!

Guys i know the images are difficult to go by but it was definitley NLCs, i know what NLCs look like and besides they would not have been featured on the UK NLC homepage by Tom if there was any doubt at all in his mind. I have been observing the sky at this hour every clear night and this morning it was VERY different, the NLCs were glowing! Even my sister noticed the unusual appearance of the sky....but they were faint and would have been missed by the untrained eye.

Yes but take into consideration that they were a diffuse Veil like band. Im 100% certain they are NLC's

Check out the UK NLC homepage here..

If you observe or image any NLCs then send them to this site.

Fair enough Martin, if you saw them, then you saw them, but I dont think your image does them justice.

The apparent image brightness on a LCD screen of a camera is often deceptive, I've taken images of the moon and they appear fine on the camera screen, its only when I see them on a PC screen do I see that the image is very underexposed.
Moral of the story, don't trust the camera screen for image brightness.
The NLC season is young yet Martin :)

Thats a very good point Dave. I to have this problem with my LCD screen so i end up with different images than what i believed i captured via pre viewing the LCD screen. I usually bracket these NLC displays anyway so when the next decent display appears i hope to get a more convincing image. The season is young indeed..happy hunting all
